CLAYTON, NJ— The People for People Foundation of Gloucester County, in partnership with Conifer, LLC, is excited to announce that Camp Salute, a 76-unit affordable living, low to moderate income apartment complex is being developed as the first community built with a veteran and veteran surviving spouses preference is on schedule for occupancy.

A partnership solves the problem of at-risk homeless veterans.

Over the past 10 years, the number of homeless and at-risk homeless veterans has risen across the country. Several states like California, Delaware and Conneticut have implement creative programs from utilizing recycled shipping containers into studio apartments to providing vouchers through HUD, to place veterans into permanent housing situations.

In Clayton, NJ a suburb of Philadelphia, PA, a partnership between a non-profit and for-profit is tackling the at-risk homeless situation holistically by creating an entire community with on-site support services.

Permanent housing available for veteran families, couples and surviving spouses of Veterans

CLAYTON, NJ—In September 2018, Camp Salute is scheduled to be fully operational with residents.

According to People for People President, Bernadette Blackstock, “Things are moving right along and after our Application Day event, we have a majority of the one bedroom unit apartments accounted for. Now is the hard part—finding families and couples for the two and three bedroom units.”

Camp Salute Veterans Housing Program Awarded $1.7 Million In Tax Credits

 Housing Units Will Help Veterans

 WEST DEPTFORD – Senate President Steve Sweeney and Robert M. Damminger, Gloucester County Freeholder Director announced today that newly-created Camp Salute in Clayton was awarded $1.7 million in tax credits for the construction of 76 low-income housing units, primarily for veterans.
